Age Trends: Heavy Use in Pase 30 days

The graph measures heavy alcohol use in a 30 day period amongst 8th, 10th, and 12th graders compiled during years 1991 to 1997. The vertical axis represents the percent of heavy drinking amongst these age groups. Age is positively correlated with rates of heavy drinking. The highest percentage of heavy alcohol use was reported by 12th graders, followed by 10th graders and 8th graders, respectively. Specifically, one of every three 12th graders, one in four 10th graders and one in seven 8th graders reported heavy alcohol use in the 30 days prior to the survey (Johnston et al, 1998).
