Either “yes” or “no” is correct. You could make a reasonable case for either response.

Based on the interview, it is unclear whether Heather has alcohol abuse or is just an at-risk drinker. She has suffered bodily harm, but not repeatedly, and all other criteria are negative. It may be that she is minimizing consequences of her drinking, but at this time, there is no information beyond her response to the interview. Although technically not meeting any criteria for an alcohol use disorder, she could reasonably be classified as an at-risk drinker or as possibly having early alcohol abuse. Since the situation is somewhat ambiguous, Dr. Moore has decided to proceed as if Heather is an at-risk drinker. The important thing is to address Heather’s heavy drinking, and, as we shall see, the approach Dr. Moore takes would be the same in either case.
