Pathways To Homelessness
The figure depicts 4 downward pointing arrows-one on top of the other-that represents individual vulnerabilities that might lead to a path of homelessness. The model is meant to depict that there is a pattern of homelessness, and once homeless, a cycle of homelessness includes cycles that might involve living with friends for a period of time and then in a shelter where, generally, only brief stays are allowed,, unless permanent housing becomes available. Each arrow is captioned as follows: loss of income; loss of housing; living with friends; and shelter. Four boxes at the base of the last arrow read, from left to right: permanent housing; another shelter; living with family/friends; and living on the streets.
