NIH Seeks Input for Institute’s Scientific Strategic Plan
In response to recommendations from the Scientific Management Review Board (SMRB), established pursuant to Sec. 401(e) of the Public Health Service Act, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is examining the creation of a new Institute focusing on substance use, abuse, and addiction-related research. This new Institute will encompass all addiction-related research within the NIH, not just the programs of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
As a next step in this process, NIH has formed a planning committee to develop a Scientific Strategic Plan for this proposed Institute. That committee is seeking input from stakeholders to help inform their deliberations. NIH has published a Request for Information (RFI) soliciting input into the Scientific Strategic Plan. The RFI appears at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-045.html and will close on Friday, May 11, 2012.
