The latest issue of NIAAA Spectrum was released in September 2010. This issue features information about current research on nutrition and alcohol, as well as NIAAA’s recent publication for the public, Beyond Hangovers: Understanding Alcohol's Impact on Your Health. Other articles include “Moderate Drinkers May Live Longer Than Non-Drinkers” and “More Adults Drinking…and in Ways That Increase Risk.”

Beyond Hangovers: Understanding Alcohol's Impact on Your Health is now available on the NIAAA Web site. Beyond Hangovers presents information on alcohol’s effects on the human body, including the heart and liver. This publication also features alcohol’s lesser known effects, such as those relating to immune system function.

Alcohol Research & Health, Volume 3, Numbers 1 and 2 (combined) is now available in print and on the NIAAA Web site. This special double issue commemorates the Institute’s 40th anniversary. It reviews the state of alcohol research across the full breadth of the field, including genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology, health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption, prevention, and treatment, including the role of NIAAA in stimulating alcohol research over the past four decades.

Alcohol Research & Health, Volume 3, Number 3 is now available in print and on the NIAAA Web site. This issue focuses on HIV and AIDS as they relate to alcohol use and abuse. Among the topics are a discussion of how alcohol and HIV/AIDS research are integrated, alcohol’s role in the transmission of the HIV virus and the progression of the AIDS disease, and how organs in the body are affected.
